Kelly Clarkson Officially Begins Her Las Vegas Residency After Postponing The First Two Shows
Kelly Clarkson returned to Las Vegas on Friday, July 11, for her Studio Sessions residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
The three-time Grammy-winning artist is no stranger to Las Vegas, having performed a run of shows at Planet Hollywood in 2023 and 2024.
However, things didn’t go as planned this time when she had to cancel the first two shows just 90 minutes before she was set to go on stage.
The residency was initially scheduled to begin on July 4. Unfortunately, though, Clarkson shared that she was dealing with vocal strain during rehearsals, which led her to cancel so she could recover.
She broke the news in a statement posted to her social media:
“We have been working 24/7 to make Studio Sessions the most intimate and extraordinary experience with and for my incredible fans,” she wrote. “I am beyond grateful that you always show up for me and I am devastated to have to postpone tonight and tomorrow’s opening at Caesars.”
She continued, “The prep and rehearsals have taken a toll on my voice. I want the shows to be perfect for y’all and I need to protect myself from doing serious damage so I am taking this weekend and next week to rest up so that we can deliver what you all deserve. The show is truly incredible. The musicians and singers are outstanding, and I want us all to start out strong. I can’t wait to be back next weekend and show y’all what we’ve been working on.”
Understandably, fans who were planning to attend the shows were disappointed.
Many even wondered why the decision to cancel came just an hour and a half before the show was supposed to begin.
During her first show back, Clarkson took a moment to explain what happened.
Clarkson Addresses Her Residency Delay
In a video taken by a fan at the July 11 show, Clarkson briefly explained what led to the last-minute change.
“It took us a minute. I’m so sorry,” she said to the audience. “I know some of y’all had tickets for last weekend’s shows. We can’t help our bodies sometimes. You know we get sick, and that happens.”
So, it seems the “Stronger” singer truly intended to go on stage right up until she realized her voice just wouldn’t allow it.
Even though the residency didn’t start the way anyone expected, Clarkson went on to say how special this particular show is to her.
“This is my favorite residency, my favorite show we’ve ever put together,” she added. “Because I love being in the studio, and that’s where this whole idea came from.”
Kelly Clarkson’s Vegas residency shows will continue through the rest of July, run throughout August, and wrap up in mid-November.
